Lightboard

The Lightboard is part of the In-Studio Recording experience. Using the Lightboard provides instructors the ability to walk through complex problems or examples. Instructors may choose to use different colored markers to distinguish between variables or numbers so it is easier for students to follow along and take notes.

Great for the following:
  • Demonstrating each step needed for solving calculation-based problems
  • Presenting a complex diagram or graphic that needs a thorough step-by-step explanation
  • Providing a guided learning experience with practice problems or examples in an online environment
  • Allowing instructors to lecture and write as they would in a traditional classroom setting

In-Studio Recording

In-Studio Recording is very popular among instructors producing courses with COIP. COIP-designed PowerPoint slides, produced in close collaboration with faculty, display behind the instructor while they teach. Instructors can alternate on and off screen when delivering their lecture, ensuring content delivery remains the focus. A Surface Pro is available for instructors to interact with the PowerPoint slides by highlighting, drawing, or zooming in on content.

Great for the following:
  • Recording lecture videos using PowerPoint slides with animations
  • Creating an environment using green screen technology to illustrate and demonstrate key concepts
  • Producing high-quality video and audio recordings of instructor-only lectures and interviews

On-Location Recording

On-Location Recordings provide instructors with a unique opportunity to present students with course-related information from any desired location. Instructors may choose to go to an on-site location to show students how a facility operates or to demonstrate how to conduct a lab from home. Our on-location recording can take the classroom anywhere.

Great for the following:
  • Presenting students with live action content they normally would not be able to see, such as wolf spiders and dolphins for a biology course
  • Demonstrating hands-on processes such as lab safety and dissection techniques
  • Providing a location as the context to a topic or an introduction to a person

Playposit

PlayPosit is an interactive video platform integrated within Canvas. Instructors can add one or more videos and insert graded quizzes and interactions that push to the gradebook. It helps create an engaging lecture experience for online students. PlayPosit supports multiple video hosts across our institution including Mediasite, YouTube, and Vimeo.

Great for the following:
  • Providing students with commentary during a video
  • Engaging students with interactions such as multiple-choice questions, free-response reflections, and scenario evaluations
  • Assessing student learning during or after a video

Storyline

Articulate Storyline allows faculty to gamify their course through branching and interactive assignments that can be linked to the Canvas gradebook. Students find themselves immersed in learning scenarios where they can discover critical information and receive immediate feedback for their actions or inactions. The platform also supports students at different levels of understanding.

Great for the following:
  • Creating hotspots on images to facilitate student exploration and learning
  • Fostering student engagement through interactive assessments, especially related to training and higher-level problem-solving
  • Supporting designs for gamified learning

Stylized PDFs

Stylized PDFs are a great way to provide students with text-based lecture content. Instead of listening to a lecture, students can easily view an interactive PDF on any device and can print it out for a better reading comprehension.

Great for the following:
  • Conveying large amounts of information that do not require audio or animation for understanding
  • Providing students with easily accessible lecture content
  • Illustrating content with graphics and charts, or including web links to resources

Infographics

Infographics allow learners to quickly scan and process more, and often complicated, information. Infographics can ease heavy cognitive loads, allowing students to retain information long after they’ve put down the document. The design of infographics can add a fun element to any presentation, and the condensed information allows students to easily reference course content on their own or with their peers.

Great for the following:
  • Succinctly conveying complex messages, ideas, facts, and figures with images, illustrations, or icons, so students can quickly review material
  • Simplifying data and creating a story, so the message can be processed and, potentially, retained longer than just text
  • Providing visuals that create a unique, memorable connection with students
