For each activity (e.g., assignment, discussion, quiz, etc.) in the module, you will need to work with the instructor to identify which objective aligns with each assignment. Additionally, each assignment will need some context/brief overview to go alongside it in Canvas.

Keep in mind, students need to plan their learning for the module using the module overview page. By providing context and/or important details here, they are able to strategize appropriately and gauge their workload.

Learning Activities Examples

Example 1

Each activity should clearly align with course objectives. There are three parts to this process (objectives, assignments, and an outline). For this example the three parts are as follows:

Objectives

  1. Identify differences and similarities between print/web writing to television writing.
  2. Use broadcast style appropriately.
  3. List the types of stories we likely come across in sports broadcasting.
  4. Recognize “sports speak” and rephrase it as necessary.

Assignments

  1. An exercise with the title and description:
    • 5Ws + 1H Exercise
    • In this exercise, you will choose a sports story delivered both via written text and a video, then answer the provided questions related to the 5Ws + 1H for your selected example.
  2. A discussion with the title and description:
    • Module 2 Discussion
    • In this discussion, you will review examples of writing, and compare the TV writing style to web/print styles. You must also respond to two classmates to earn full credit.
  3. An assignment with the title and description:
    • Story Transcript Assignment
    • From everything you read, watched and learned above, you should now be able to transcribe a web story to a TV story.

Module Outline Alignment Detail

Add (Objective #) at the end of each assignment title like this:

  1. 5Ws + 1H Exercise (Objectives #1-3)
    • In this exercise, you will choose a sports story delivered both via written text and a video, then answer the provided questions related to the 5Ws + 1H for your selected example.
  2. Module 2 Discussion (Objective #2)
    • In this discussion, you will review examples of writing, and compare the TV writing style to web/print styles. You must also respond to two classmates to earn full credit.
  3. Story Transcript Assignment (Objective #1-4)
    • From everything you read, watched and learned above, you should now be able to transcribe a web story to a TV story.

Example 2

For this example, to complete the objective/assignment alignment the details are as follows:

Objectives

  1. Summarize important considerations and factors for preparing an event budget.
  2. Identify fixed versus variable costs.
  3. List varying event planner pricing methods.
  4. Research and create an in-depth event budget.

Assignments

  1. An assignment with the description:
    • In this assignment, you will come up with a theoretical event for which you will create an in-depth event budget with realistic projections of costs based on real numbers you attain through research.
  2. A discussion with the description:
    • In this discussion, you will list ten items needed for your event and identify whether each is a need or want and which are fixed or variable. Then, discuss comparisons, missed items, and how to obtain needs and wants with your classmates.

Module Outline Alignment Detail

Then on the outline, just add (Objective #) at the end of each assignment title like this

  1. Budget Assignment (Objectives #1-4)
    • In this assignment, you will come up with a theoretical event for which you will create an in-depth event budget with realistic projections of costs based on real numbers you attain through research.
  2. Budget Vs Needs Vs Wants Discussion (Objectives #1 and 3)
    • In this discussion, you will list ten items needed for your event and identify whether each is a need or want and which are fixed or variable. Then, discuss comparisons, missed items, and how to obtain needs and wants with your classmates.
