COIP Production Pathways

Premium Course Production

Description: This pathway is intended to enhance student engagement through multimedia, advanced navigation and page layout, use of animation in lecture videos, and application of educational tools. Course content is enhanced through active engagement strategies, learning tools, and fully produced, branded videos featuring elevated lecture design and animation.

Production Activity:

  • Select a Canvas and PowerPoint template from the COIP Library. If needed, a customized design may be requested.
  • Instructors and the ID collaborate to complete the Course Map and Module Outlines.
  • IDs review the Course Map and course content and make recommendations for:
    • Measurable learning objectives and their alignment to course materials and assignments
    • Increasing student engagement through learning tools, e.g., PlayPosit, Clarity, and Packback
    • Accessibility
    • Alignment with OCQ standards
    • Opportunities to enhance the content and learning experience
  • Weekly meetings will be scheduled for consultation and collaboration.
  • The instructor’s lecture content will be enhanced using stylized PowerPoint templates, edited for accessibility, and corrected for grammar.
  • COIP builds course content in Canvas.
  • COIP edits lecture content as recorded in the studio or shared remotely.

Instructor Activity:

  • Select a Canvas and PowerPoint template from the COIP Library, along with a banner image, for the landing and content pages.
  • Provide content through the course map, course outlines, and updated PowerPoints and scripts.
  • Attend weekly meetings to review progress and discuss feedback from the ID regarding course materials, alignment, and accessibility.
  • Record video content.
  • Review the updated course content (e.g., pages, assignments, videos).

Stipend: $5,000

Full Course Production

Description: This pathway is for instructors who seek assistance in producing their course with reduced multimedia employed. This is a full production but with limited multimedia and PowerPoint work. More than 70% of the content must be created new. This pathway is eligible for a two-semester development. More information

Production Goals: The course is part of UF Online and meets the requirements for a Quality designation according to the Online Course Quality (OCQ) standards. Course content is enhanced through active engagement strategies, learning tools, and enhanced lecture designs.

Production Activity:

  • Select a Canvas and PowerPoint template from the COIP Library, along with a banner image, for the landing and content pages.
  • Instructors will a) complete the Course Map and Module Outlines or b) share their course syllabus, Canvas pages, or other documents for the instructional designer (ID) to review and produce a Course Map.
  • COIP will review the course content for:
    • Measurable learning objectives and their alignment to course materials and assignments
    • Accessibility
    • Evidence of meeting the OCQ standards
    • Opportunities to enhance the content and learning experience through learning tools, e.g., PlayPosit and Perusall
  • Weekly meetings will be scheduled for consultation and collaboration.
  • COIP will build course content in Canvas.

Partial Course Production

Description: This pathway requires more than 25% but less than 70% new content to be created. This pathway is available for courses previously developed by COIP, and no course visual design changes are needed. This work is intended to take place within one semester.

Production Goal: The newly created components for the UF Online course meet the requirements for a Quality designation according to the Online Course Quality (OCQ) standards. Components of the course will be enhanced through active engagement strategies, learning tools, and enhanced lecture designs.

Example Scenarios:

  • The required textbook has been updated, necessitating updates to course components.
  • Changes are needed to address updates to regulatory or accreditation guidelines.
  • Changes are requested for four or more modules.
  • Rerecord 4 to 8 videos with limited animations is requested.
  • Enhance specific assignments or labs and/or integrate advanced learning tools (e.g., PlayPosit, Perusall).

Production Activity:

  • COIP will create a Course Map based on existing content for the instructor to review.
  • COIP will review the existing course and collaborate with the instructor to build new components that support: Measurable learning objectives and their alignment to course materials and assignments
  • Regular meetings will be scheduled to discuss the recommendations and progress.

Instructor Activity:

  • Provide the content that needs to be updated through the course map, course outlines, and/or updated PowerPoint. For animation, scripting is required.
  • Attend regular meetings to discuss progress and review feedback from the ID on course materials, alignment, and accessibility in relation to the OCQ Standard.
  • Determine any necessary updates to incorporate the information from the ID review and provide revisions to the ID accordingly.
  • If needed, record video content.
  • Review the updated course content (e.g., pages, assignments, videos).

Micro-Production

Description: This pathway is intended for instructors with online teaching experience who have minimal changes to their UF Online course content but would like assistance. With this option, less than 25% of the content is updated, or the course is reformatted with a new template, and the content is accepted as is. This work is expected to be completed within one semester.

Production Goals: Limited changes are made, or the content is reformatted without changes. The course is reviewed to ensure that the changes made continue to meet the requirements for a Quality designation, as outlined in the Online Course Quality (OCQ) standards.

Example Scenarios:

  • A course was developed, and the content is fine as is, but it is not formatted in an updated UF Online program template; only the visual organization will be updated.
  • Changes to three or fewer modules are requested.
  • Three or fewer videos are rerecorded.

COIP Production Activity:

  • COIP will create a Course Map based on existing content for the instructor to review.
  • COIP will review the course content to ensure alignment between course objectives, assignments, and check for accessibility.
  • The ID will schedule regular meetings to discuss the changes needed, recommendations, and progress.
  • COIP will move the instructor’s course content from their existing Canvas shell into a new Canvas template. COIP will assist in making instructor-requested changes to meet the OCQ standards.

Instructor Activity:

  • Provide updated content through the course map and/or course outlines.
  • Attend regular meetings to discuss progress and review feedback provided regarding course materials, alignment, and accessibility in relation to the OCQ Standard.

Accessibility and Online Course Quality Readiness Review

Description: This pathway provides faculty with a review of their course, checking for accessibility and readiness for a UF Online Course Quality Review. This work should be completed within 8 weeks.

Production Goals: The course meets accessibility and OCQ standards.

Production Activity:

  • COIP will review the course content to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Items that can be fixed quickly and easily will be addressed. If the review completed in this pathway reveals that substantive work is required to mediate and correct findings, an additional production pathway may be recommended.

Instructor Activity:

  • Review the ID’s feedback on course materials, alignment, and accessibility in relation to accessibility standards.
  • Meet to discuss and address feedback.
  • Determine any necessary updates based on the ID review and provide revised materials to the ID.
  • Review any updates the ID made to the course.

Stipend: None

Two-Semester Development

To maintain fiscal accountability and ensure alignment of program priority courses, COIP will reserve limited spaces available for a two-semester development. Courses typically approved for two-semester development are courses with dense content and heavy multimedia requirements.

The Two-Semester Development is structured as follows:

  • During the kickoff meeting, the ID and the faculty can discuss whether a two-semester development is needed. The request will be granted based on need and availability of space on the schedule.
  • The first semester is dedicated to creating a course map, content outlines, and 1/4 of the PowerPoint lecture slides. Monthly meetings with the ID are scheduled to track progress.
  • The second semester is dedicated to developing the course based on the content from Semester 1, as well as creating and recording lecture videos.

Note: If the expected deliverables required in Semester 1 are not provided according to the agreed-upon schedule, the two-semester development will be paused. A new intake can be submitted once the Semester 1 content is completed, and the faculty is ready to proceed with Semester 2 work.
